Pakenham Nursery
The Acorn Room (under 2s)
The Acorn Room is for the under two year olds and consists of a well equipped play area, dining area and separate sleep area.
Your baby’s day will follow, as closely as possible, the routine that is already established at home. Sleeps will match the babies own pattern or routine.
The babies have access to a wide variety of toys, books and experiences. Activities are planned by the room leader and key worker to meet the needs of the individual child.
For lunch, tea and snacks the babies sit at the table together to make meal times a social activity for them as a group.
Activities
Activities will include sensory activities, messy play, playdough and creating wonderful masterpieces to take home. The babies also have opportunities to do some simple cooking.
The Oak Room (2-5 years old)
The Oak Room is for children aged 2-5 years old and is laid out in areas, offering your child the varied experiences. The areas include:
- Building / construction area –including Small World toys (such as farm, jungle animals, train track and cars) as well as a variety of building bricks and blocks.
- Art and craft area – with a variety of paints, papers, pens and modelling items allowing the children to express their creative side.
- Role play / home area – this area allows the children to dress up and recreate familiar scenes, such as feeding a baby, doing the washing etc.
- Book and quiet areas – here the children have some space for a quiet time activity – either sharing stories and rhymes with friends and carers or completing jigsaw puzzles.
- Writing area – which includes a selection of pens, pencils and paper for the children to explore early writing
- Malleable play and messy play area – Every day in the malleable area the staff provide exciting play not often offered at home this might include jelly, cereals, rice, pasta, playdough and gloop.
Group time in the Oak Room
Every day in the Oak Room your child will have group time sessions led by a member of staff. They are in two groups to ensure that they get the most out of the planned activities. The younger children have a shorter more informal session designed to help them with listening and speaking skills and expand their attention span.
The Garden
Your child will be able to explore the garden every day, we go out in all weathers. This allows your child to exercise their gross motor skills, giving them the freedom to run, jump and climb. There is a sandpit they can climb in to, blackboards they can draw on and a mud kitchen to ‘cook’ in, as well as bikes and exciting activities planned each day. Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and knowledge of the world around them.
